Ultima Online is trolling for new customers
I received an email from Ultima Online today. Seems they are upgrading the game and offering new customers big bonuses.
"Players creating new (non trial) accounts will receive a New Player Token giving them access to 20,000 gold; a premium armor set; weapons; and increased skill gain for all venturing party members." They are also starting PvP arenas. But somehow, I can't picture myself playing a game that is so behind the times and pay for the privilege every month.

I think that everything MMO-wise that isn't WoW is imploding and trying everything possible in a last ditch effort to screw money out of dying franchises.
GW is immune, of course

That game is too old for someone like me to try. It'd need a series major updates to modernize it.
Frankly whoever owns the series made a mistake by canceling the sequel twice. A 15 year old game isn't going to be able to compete with WoW very well. |

Pffft...back in my day, we started off with a candle, a dagger, a book and 100 gold pieces! And we liked it!
@Winterclaw: UO mostly catered to roleplayers, but once shiny graphics starting popping up in other online games, a bunch of folks left. Once EA showed up, it was simultaneously revived and killed due to intense game play changes. And yes, UO is one of those "you just had to be there when it happened" kind of deals. About a year ago, I went back after a long absence and stopped after two or three weeks because the once vibrant roleplaying device I so thoroughly enjoyed was tarnished by corporate greed and meme garbage.
